Knowing When To “Get Off” the Horse

By Gay Barefield Jan 16

Get Off the Horse

“NO is a positive word”

We are all guilty of it, staying too long, wearing out our welcome or as I like to say, “riding the pony into the dirt”.

What am I talking about? Knowing when it’s time to move on, let go or maybe just change directions.

What am I referring to? Anything in your life that no longer serves a purpose; a job, friend, relationship or a closet full of stuff. This past week these words, “don’t ride the pony into the dirt”, seemed to be a reoccurring theme for me and others in my life.

Why do we hang on too long?  Guilt, money, overwhelmed or the feeling of “who else will take this over?” Are any of these good reasons? NO!

Why is NO a positive word? It allows us the ability to put our boundaries in place, it gives us freedom without guilt and it keeps us sane. Why is it so hard to say? Because we have always been told it’s negative, we should feel guilty for saying it and why can’t we just stay, do or keep whatever we are trying to rid ourselves of.

Try saying NO when you feel overwhelmed and can’t add one more thing to your life. Say NO to a job or relationship that no longer works for you. Walk away from adding one more material thing to your home that you don’t really need.

Review the things in your life that are draining your energy and say NO to the ones that no longer serve you and YES to the things that fuel your life.

Empower yourself with the word, “NO” and see what new world opens up for you!

I would love to hear your comments on how you empowered yourself with the word “NO”.

No is a positive word and I’m glad I’ve been learning to say it over the years so that I have the freedom to say yes when I really want to.

A real good time to get “off a horse” is if the ride is getting so bumpy you aren’t having fun anymore!! Been on a few of those ponies!!!

AMEN girl and we will keep having them! But sometimes it’s those rides that teach us the most! Keep “No” in your back pocket always and thanks for your insight.

“No” can be so freeing. I have learned to say no and not feel guilty, but I do think that I have to constantly remind myself . I am still at a station in my life that I am ready to change horses and ride on a different horse or in a different direction. I am witing to see what God has instore!

Keep an open mind girl because as we all know it may be the thing that you least expect! And keep saying NO without guilt! Thanks for your comments.
