**“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes. All is a miracle.”  **

** **― [Thich Nhat Hanh](http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/9074.Thich_Nhat_Hanh)****

**Walking.**  It gets us where we need to be, moves us forward or away and allows us to be mobile. Walking gets taken for granted most of the time and we need to be reminded of its amazing powers. Here’s a few examples of how walking shows up in our everyday conversations:

**Walk it off.** A common term meaning to let it go or calm down.

**Walking off pounds.**Walking as exercise to help you lose weight.

**Walking meditation.**Walking as a form of meditation. Being present and aware of everything around you.

**Walk away.**Move away from a situation, person or thing that is bothering you.

These are just a few examples of how the **simple** act of walking has such a powerful impact on our lives. For me **walking** provides two important things in my life. I use walking as my form of aerobic exercise, power walking for at least 35 minutes a day. I also use walking as a meditative tool to clear my head and be present to my surroundings.

**Walking barefoot on the earth**, although a very ancient ritual has been revisited with a technique called [Earthing](http://.earthinginstitute.net). The benefits of allowing your energetic field to reconnect and ground with the energetic field of the Earth are numerous. It reduces stress, realigns the heart’s own magnetic field, lowers blood pressure and brings you back to a state of wholeness. All with the simple act of **walking**.

My hope is that you will look at **walking** in a whole new light and give it a place in your everyday routine. Let me hear your comments on how walking has a place or will have a place in your simple healthy lifestyle.
